Qualification of Post-Installed Adhesive Anchors in Concrete and Commentary

American Concrete Institute / 01-Aug-2011 / 59 pages

This standard prescribes testing and evaluation requirements
for post-installed adhesive anchor systems intended for use
in concrete under the provisions of ACI 318. Criteria are
separately prescribed to determine the suitability of adhesive
anchors used in uncracked concrete only, or in both cracked
and uncracked concrete. Criteria are prescribed to determine
the design parameters and performance category for adhesive
anchors. Included are assessments of the adhesive anchor
system for bond strength, reliability, service conditions, and
quality control. Special inspection (13.3) is required during
anchor installation as noted in 10.22. Table 1.1 provides an
overview of the scope.

Building Code Requirements for Structural Concrete and Commentary

This code was prepared by ACI (American Concrete Institute) Committee 318 in August 2011. It has 509 pages.
The “Building Code Requirements for Structural Concrete” (“Code”) covers the materials, design, and construction of structural concrete used in buildings and where applicable in nonbuilding structures. The Code also covers the strength evaluation of existing concrete structures.

Among the subjects covered are: contract documents; inspection; materials; durability requirements; concrete quality, mixing, and placing; formwork; embedded pipes; construction joints; reinforcement details; analysis and design; strength and serviceability; flexural and axial loads; shear and torsion; development and splices of reinforcement; slab systems; walls; footings; precast concrete; composite flexural members; prestressed concrete; shells and folded plate members; strength evaluation of existing structures; provisions for seismic design; structural plain concrete; strutand- tie modeling in Appendix A; alternative design provisions in Appendix B; alternative load and strength reduction factors in Appendix C; and anchoring to concrete in Appendix D.

The quality and testing of materials used in construction are covered by reference to the appropriate ASTM standard specifications. Welding of reinforcement is covered by reference to the appropriate American Welding Society (AWS) standard.

Uses of the Code include adoption by reference in general building codes, and earlier editions have been widely used in this manner. The Code is written in a format that allows such reference without change to its language. Therefore, background details or suggestions for carrying out the requirements or intent of the Code portion cannot be included. The Commentary is provided for this purpose. Some of the considerations of the committee in developing the Code portion are discussed within the Commentary, with emphasis given to the explanation of new or revised provisions. Much of the research data referenced in preparing the Code is cited for the user desiring to study individual questions in greater detail. Other documents that provide suggestions for carrying out the requirements of the Code are also cited.

American Concrete Institute published new edition of complete 6-volume set of their Manual of Concrete Practice (MCP).The manual is the most comprehensive concrete reference. It contains all of the widely used ACI concrete and masonry code requirements, specifications, guides and reports.

  • The largest, single source of concrete information in one set of books
  • More than 190 documents
  • Six parts, plus a separate index
  • Documents easier to locate because they’re arranged in numerical order

Covered topics

  • Design of reinforced concrete and masonry structures
  • Design and construction of floors on grade, pavements, and parking lots
  • Specification writing
  • Concrete mixture proportioning
  • Concrete mixing, transporting, and placing
  • Hot and cold-weather concreting
  • Formwork
  • Inspection and testing
  • Construction tolerances
  • Repair, Renovation, and Rehabilitation
