Rotodynamic Pumps for Hydraulic Performance Acceptance Tests (ANSI/HI 14.6)

Hydraulic Institute / 09-Aug-2011 / 90 pages

This standard covers hydraulic performance tests for acceptance of rotodynamic pumps (centrifugal, mixed flow, and axial flow pumps. The Centrifugal Pump Test Standard (ANSI/HI 1.6-2000) and the Vertical Pump Test Standard (ANSI/HI 2.6-2000) have been superseded by this standard. The new test standard contains significant updates from the 2000 version(s) and is considered the new global reference for testing centrifugal and vertical pumps. ANSI/HI Standard 14.6 is intended to be used for pump acceptance testing at

Industry experience shows that it is very difficult to perform measurements accurate enough to satisfy the acceptance requirements in this standard when testing is performed in the field.

Information in the standard may be applied to pumps of any size and to any pumped liquids behaving as clear water.

ANSI/HI 14.6-2011 includes six (6) acceptance grades instead of two (2) that were included in the 2000 versions. Tolerance bands have been developed that will be of interest to those concerned with energy efficiency. Acceptance grades with bilateral tolerances and acceptance grades with unilateral tolerances are defined. Default acceptance grades based on the purchaser?s application are available to guide the pump community (used when there is no specific test acceptance grade in the contract document). The standard contains tolerances for pumps with low horsepower input.

The standard features an updated layout of the test arrangement and appendices containing information regarding measuring equipment, string tests, and discrete test parameters. New graphics and content provide readers with insight into NPSH testing. In addition, it contains special test techniques related to model testing to predict performance of pumps to large to test by conventional means.

Rotodynamic (Centrifugal) Slurry Pump Standard

Hydraulic Institute / 19-May-2011 / 126 pages

This standard for Rotodynamic (Centrifugal) Slurry Pumps for Nomencalture, Definitions, Applications and Operation provides an update to the 2005 edition. It addresses a long-standing challenge in the wastewater pump industy for development and acceptance of a test standard written specifically for slurry pumps. The scope of this newly updated standard includes:

  • Slurry pump types
  • Types of slurries
  • Slurry limitations
  • Slurry solids effect on pumps
  • Pumping of froth, pump wear, and application

The standard provides requirements for wet-end and bearing housing shaft seals, establishes allowable nozzle loads, and provides a data sheet that can be used by purchasers and vendors to exchange information.

Significant updates in the 2011 edition include: pump icons and letter designation [e.g. (OH0), (VS5)] to help identify specific pump types, a principal symbols table, an expanded subscripts table, clarified datum elevations, and the Miller number versus Material Abrasivity curve.

The updated standard offers enhanced details and added content for seal flush plans. It also contains an improved dynamic sealing arrangement cross-section. In addition, the standard includes increased mathematical content and more comprehensive data tables.
