This standard describes the various types and classes of cold-water displacement meters with metal alloy main cases, in sizes 1/2 in. (13 mm) through 2 in. (50 mm), and the materials and workmanship employed in their fabrication. The displacement meters described, known as nutating-disc or oscillating-piston meters, are positive in action because the pistons and discs displace or carry over a fixed quantity of water for each nutation or oscillation when operated under positive pressure. The major revisions made to this edition of the standard are too numerous to list here and can be found in the Foreward section of the standard.

1.1 This specification2 covers requirements for high-strength quenched and tempered alloy steel forgings for pressure vessels, isostatic presses, shock tubes, and similar components.

1.2 These materials are not intended for welded construction.

1.3 Three grades of nickel-chromium-molybdenum steels and six classes of increasing tensile strength are included. The strength class, section size, and configuration of the forging will largely dictate the applicable type(s) of steel.

1.4 The values stated in either inch-pound units or SI (metric) units are to be regarded separately as the standard. Within the text and tables, the SI units are shown in brackets. The values stated in each system are not exact equivalents; therefore, each system must be used independently of the other. Combining values from the two systems may result in nonconformance with the specification.

1.5 Unless the order specifies the applicable “M” specification designation, the material shall be furnished to the inch-pound units.

Scope

This standard specifies a suite of conformance tests for system-level requirements of Ethernet Passive Optical Network (EPON) equipment, defined in IEEE 1904.1 Package A.

Purpose

The purpose of this standard is to build upon the IEEE 1904.1 Package A EPON system-level interoperability standard and create a suite of conformance tests. Defining the exact test procedures will allow vendors, network operators, and independent testing facilities to achieve consistent results when testing EPON equipment for conformance with IEEE 1904.1 Package A.

1.1 This specification2 covers high-strength quenched and tempered low-alloy steel forged parts for pressure vessels. The maximum thickness of forgings under this specification shall be 11/2 in. [38 mm] for Grade A, and 4 in. [100 mm] for Grades E and F.

Note 1: These grades are similar to corresponding grades in Specification A517/A517M.

1.2 Although no provision is made for supplementary requirements in this standard, the supplementary requirements in Specification A788/A788M may be considered by the purchaser.

1.3 Welding technique is of fundamental importance and it is presupposed that welding procedures will be in accordance with approved methods for the class of material used.

1.4 The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound units are to be regarded separately as standard. The values stated in each system may not be exact equivalents; therefore, each system shall be used independently of the other. Combining values from the two systems may result in non-conformance with the standard.
