BS EN 50134-7:2017 applies to the delivery of social alarms services by organisations, whether through the
use of paid or voluntary staff. It does not apply to the use of social alarm systems to enhance informal
arrangements between an individual and their close friends and family for the provision of assistance,
although it may provide advice on the issues that such individuals may need to consider.

This standard specifies requirements for social alarm service providers for effective and efficient
management, policy and procedures for:

  • general requirements;
  • marketing;
  • sale and referral;
  • assessment;
  • installation;
  • alarm monitoring;
  • response arrangement;
  • operational records;
  • service and maintenance;
  • risk management;
  • service development and improvement;
  • workforce.

NOTE The effectiveness of a social alarm service is largely dependent upon the management of the system
and its integration with other services.

BS 9999:2017

Fire safety in the design, management and use of buildings. Code of practice

BS 9999:2017 gives recommendations and guidance on the design,
management and use of buildings to achieve reasonable standards of fire safety
for all people in and around buildings.

This British Standard is not applicable to the following types of building, which
are covered in BS 9991:

  • dwellings (single-family dwelling houses, self-contained flats or
    maisonettes);

  • residential accommodation blocks (e.g. for students or hospital staff), with
    individual bedrooms and the provision of kitchen/sanitary facilities
    constructed within a fire compartment;

  • specialized housing.

It is not applicable to houses of multiple occupancy (HMOs) or buildings in
which occupants receive medical care. It might have only limited applicability to
certain specialist buildings and areas of buildings (e.g. areas of lawful
detention).

This British Standard is applicable to the design of new buildings, and to
material alterations, extensions and material change of use of an existing
building.

NOTE Attention is drawn to the Building Regulations 2010 [1] and equivalent
national variations ([3] to [5]) in respect of the definition of material alterations,
extensions and material change of use.

It also provides recommendations and guidance on the ongoing management of
fire safety in a building throughout the entire life cycle of the building,
including measures for designers to ensure that the overall design of a building
assists and enhances the management of fire safety. It can be used as a tool for
assessing existing buildings, although fundamental change in line with its
recommendations might be limited or not practicable.

The recommendations and guidance given in this British Standard are intended
to safeguard the lives of building occupants and fire-fighters. Whilst some of the
recommendations and guidance might also assist in the achievement of other
fire safety objectives – such as protection of property, the environment,
communities and business/service viability – additional measures might be
necessary which are outside the scope of this British Standard.

This British Standard does not cover fire safety design strategies for extreme
events such as terrorist actions.

BS ISO 11424:2017 specifies requirements for rubber hoses and tubing for use in the various air and vacuum
systems found on internal combustion engines. This document does not cover hoses used for direct
power-brake actuation in trucks and trailers, nor for air intakes and ducting within the passenger
compartment. The highest-temperature hoses are generally used for turbocharger applications. All
hoses and tubing remain serviceable down to -40°C.

NOTE Although the term vacuum is generally used, in reality the application is one of reduced air pressure
used for the purposes of actuation or monitoring of the various engine-system components. The air carried by
the tubing or hoses may be clean and free of contaminants but may also contain oil, fuel and their vapours as
contamination, due to the particular installation and application.

BS ISO 16962:2017 specifies a glow-discharge optical-emission spectrometric method for the determination
of the thickness, mass per unit area and chemical composition of metallic surface coatings consisting of
zinc- and/or aluminium-based materials. The alloying elements considered are nickel, iron, silicon, lead
and antimony.

This method is applicable to zinc contents between 0,01 mass % and 100 mass %; aluminium contents
between 0,01 mass % and 100 mass %; nickel contents between 0,01 mass % and 20 mass %; iron
contents between 0,01 mass % and 20 mass %; silicon contents between 0,01 mass % and 15 mass %;
magnesium contents between 0,01 mass% and 20 mass%; lead contents between 0,005 mass % and
2 mass %, antimony contents between 0,005 mass % and 2 mass %.

NOTE Due to environmental and health risks, lead and antimony are avoided nowadays, but this document
is also applicable to older products including these elements.

BS PD ISO/IEC TS 20071-25:2017 provides recommendations on the audio presentation of captions/subtitles and other
on-screen text for use in all type of videos regardless of the language and technology being used to
transmit and present the recorded or live video.

This document applies to making captions/subtitles and other on-screen text accessible to users with
various needs, including but not limited to people with learning and reading disabilities, people with
cognitive disabilities, people who are blind or have low vision, older people, and non-native language
speakers. It does not apply to captions/subtitles or other on-screen text whose content is already
provided in the soundtrack in a language and a way users can access.

This document provides guidance on spoken captions/subtitles as a stand-alone access service but it
also provides guidance on how to integrate spoken captions/subtitles, other spoken on-screen text and
audio description, if needed, in different types of videos.

NOTE 1 Extensive guidance on audio description is provided in ISO/IEC/TS 20071-21.

This document does not consider the devices or transmission mechanisms used to deliver and play
the content or the audio presentation of text in videos. These devices include, but are not limited to
televisions, computers, wireless devices, projection equipment, DVD and home cinema equipment,
cinema equipment and other forms of user interfaces technology. Therefore, this document does not
consider transcoding files for the various video and audio outputs.

NOTE 2 Technical matters of transmission and distribution are covered by other documents (e.g. MPEG
